Review duty changes
History records time served, while Changes records assignments, cover and swap decisions, and lane resets. Use them to compare actual duty with the decisions that affected it.
You need: access to the rotation.
Read served duty
Section titled “Read served duty”Open the rotation’s History tab. Rows show full recorded periods, grouped by their start date in the selected time zone. A period ending on another date includes that date beside its end time.
Daily totals count only the portions within scheduled coverage hours for each calendar day, including periods that started on an earlier day. They are not the sum of the full row durations under that date. Select About daily totals for this distinction. Overlapping staffed intervals count once: a period is covered when at least one person is on duty.
An uncovered stretch is time within the rotation’s coverage hours when nobody was on duty. The daily summary includes the total gap duration; <1m identifies a gap shorter than a minute. Outside coverage hours do not count as gaps.
Status and reason shows the period’s status or the event that ended it. Select a status for its explanation. An end event does not describe every moment within the preceding period.
| Label | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Automatic duty change | Duty changed under the schedule, cover, swaps or availability. The record does not identify the specific cause. |
| Coverage hours started / Coverage hours ended | The recorded period ended when coverage hours opened or closed. |
| In progress | The duty period is still running. |
| Coverage gap | Nobody was on duty during scheduled coverage hours. |
| Unassigned period | No on-duty assignment is recorded for the period. |
| Nobody on call | No person held duty during the recorded interval. This alone does not establish why. |
| Outside coverage hours | The record identifies a planned period outside coverage hours. |
| Coverage hours | The coverage times and time zone recorded for that shift. Later schedule edits do not change these details. |
Show periods outside coverage hours
Section titled “Show periods outside coverage hours”Hide periods outside coverage hours is on by default. It hides only periods confirmed to be entirely outside coverage hours. Coverage gaps, periods that overlap scheduled hours and periods with unknown coverage hours remain visible.
Switch it off to include confirmed outside-hours periods. Changing the switch returns to the first page. Page counts and CSV or JSON exports follow the same setting.
If No matching history appears, widen the date range or clear other filters. Switch off Hide periods outside coverage hours to check whether it excludes the records you need.
Find a change
Section titled “Find a change”- Open the rotation’s Changes tab, between History and Activity.
- Under Duty changes, choose a date range to narrow the feed. Entries are newest first. Use Load more for older matching entries.
- Read Changed, Affected period, Window · Lane and Assignments and people. Missing actor, lane and window details stay blank.
One change can affect several intervals. A swap groups both turns under one event, with a separate assignment comparison for each interval. Repeated recorded periods with matching hours and assignments can share a date range and Affected hours summary. Expand Affected periods to read the exact records; the summary describes those recorded dates, not a recurring future schedule.
The feed date identifies when the change was recorded. Affected period identifies the duty interval it concerns; these dates can differ. Dates follow the selected time zone.
The served-duty history and its export describe time actually served. Changes describes decisions, including those concerning future intervals.
| State | What to do |
|---|---|
| No duty changes | Select View plan to inspect scheduled duty. A future schedule can exist without recorded changes or served-duty history. |
| No matching changes | Select Clear filters to read all recorded duty changes. |
| Duty changes could not be loaded | Select Retry before treating the feed as empty. |
Read the people involved
Section titled “Read the people involved”| Label | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Assignment before / after | The recorded people before and after an applied change, separated by an arrow when both sides are known. |
| Previous assignment | The recorded assignment removed by a reset, without an inferred replacement. |
| No one | The recorded interval has no assignee. |
| Previous assignment unavailable | The earlier assignment is unknown. |
| Resulting assignment unavailable | The resulting assignment is unknown. |
| Assignment override removed | A roster edit removed an assignment override. The record does not identify the resulting assignee. |
| Requester and Recipients | The recorded request participants. |
| Accepted by | The member who accepted cover, when recorded. |
| Other recipients | The requested recipients other than the accepting member. |
A pending cover or swap request does not change the assignee. Its entry lists the request’s participants without presenting them as an applied replacement.
When assignment details are unavailable, recorded request participants can still appear. Accepted by identifies the acceptance decision; it does not establish a missing assignment before or after the change. A participant already identified as the actor is not repeated.
An unavailable assignment is not an uncovered interval. Open Plan to check current duty; the current plan does not establish who held an older interval.
Check a lane reset
Section titled “Check a lane reset”Changes to people, group sources or turn order can reset assignments and requests in the affected duty cells. Lane duty changes reset identifies the roster change. Affected requests show Cover request cancelled or Swap request cancelled when pending, and Cover cancelled or Swap cancelled when accepted.
A reset preserves completed duty. Pending requests and accepted cover or swaps become cancelled, including both linked swap intervals. Check Plan before making another assignment or request.
Assignment override removed describes the reset’s effect when no resulting assignee was recorded. Open Plan to see duty under the updated schedule; the reset entry does not name a replacement.
Missing details
Section titled “Missing details”An older entry can lack recorded assignment details. An operation without a known recorded time is omitted. Missing evidence is not reconstructed from today’s schedule. Use the served-duty history to inspect recorded service and Plan for current or upcoming duty.
Next steps
Section titled “Next steps”- Change an assignment: assign a replacement or restore scheduled duty.
- Request cover: ask another member to take an interval.
- Swap duty: exchange two duty intervals.
